It's useful to get a sense of how the history behind trying to theorize and test how emotion happens in humans. it's an entire topic in and of itself, and we need not concern ourselves with understanding finite details of each topic, but it's interesting to just get a sense of how the exploration has shifted over time.
How important is physiology to emotion? Do we feel emotional because we are reading our bodies' signals? Is emotion purely cognitive? Do we feel emotional because we feel something first, or have a cognition, (anger, love, lust, happiness etc) and then the physiological signals happen? Read through 'Theories of Emotion' to see the development in this exploration. You'll notice an increasing emphasis over time in the role of cognition. Time: 20 mins to read & make any notes you find interesting.
