Situational & Dispositional Factors
Stanley Milgram's (1966) famous shock experiment research is useful to use in support of this learning outcome.
Watch the clip below and consider which dispositional factors (internal, stable, personality-based) affect the teachers' decision to shock or not; consider also which situational factors (externally located, environmentally-based) affect the choice to continue the experiment or not. This is a highly unethical piece of research, of course. Before you turn to immediate judgment, consider Milgram's research aim. What did he, and society, learn from his research? Was it worth the discomfort and guilt caused to particpants? |
