course Introduction...
As Crane & Hannibal (2009) note in one of our supplementary course texts, Psychology: Course Companion, there is no single definition of psychology that is accepted by all (p. 8). However, a common definition is as follows: psychology can be defined as the systematic, scientific study of mental processes and behaviour. The IBDP Psychology course provides a holitisic introduction to how and why humans behave in certain contexts, and to how internal and external factors that influence these processes and behaviours. There are many relevant topics we explore, and many interesting conversations to have as we attempt to understand why we behave the way we do.
You will start IB Psychology with a general course introduction and background into the basics of research methodology. You will also learn about ethical guidelines necessary for conducting research in this field, and implications that arise from research. You will then begin study of Paper 1 (Core Approach) and notice Paper 2 (Options) as you study Core. You will start learning about and planning the Internal Assessment in Gr 11 and complete and submit your 'IA' in Gr 12. For Higher Level students, qualitative research methodology will be studied across the 2 year course (Paper 3).
